Evidence shows that women in EU countries are under-represented in physical, computing, and numerical methods development sciences. Expertise in these disciplines is necessary when generating the highly advanced tools required for numerical weather and climate prediction. This document contains a Plan for Gender Balance i.e. a plan to undertake specific steps aiming towards equal participation of men and women in all aspects of work, activities and exploitation of outcomes of the ESCAPE-2 project.

The plan expands positive actions undertaken in the earlier ESCAPE project and concentrates on the further development of the ESCAPE/ESCAPE-2 Gender Balance webpage and its utilisation to promote project activities, achievements, role models, and training opportunities among both existing female scientists and a young diverse population considering careers related to the project disciplines. The plan also includes the use of social media to provide useful links to gender networking as well as the dissemination of the project information and events. The gender balance links will be promoted among the staff of ESCAPE-2 partners and their associated institutions.

Additionally, the review process of all ESCAPE-2 documentation will include proof reading to avoid a gender bias style and to utilise gender-inclusive language.
